    1. Oooo, questions! I didn't realize there'd be questions. Cool!

My favorite character I've created is, no doubt, Shapri Teak. Not only is she the most fun, but she’s also the kind of the person I wish I could have been like back when I was younger. She’s strong, always true to herself, and won’t let anyone disrespect her. Sure, she has fears, but we all do. Shapri is the kind of girl I would love to be friends with. You know she’ll always go to bat for you when you’re too tired to step up to the plate.

    1. HI, ABBY!!!!

Everything started with a single image—my face in these tacky oversized sunglasses reflecting out at me from the car’s side mirror. I was daydreaming while my husband drove us across Michigan for my sister’s wedding. Something about my image really struck me in an almost horrific way. I felt the glasses made me look blind but found it so weird that there was still a clear image within them; it seemed so contradictory. At the time, my book club was reading The Odyssey, which features the blind Theban prophet, Tieresias. I started thinking about what it would be like to have non-visual visions of the future and began forming a modern Tieresias in my mind. Lo and behold, Alex Kosmitoras was born. I didn’t want him to be alone in his psychic subculture, so I found other characters with other powers to keep him company. Thank God for my poor fashion sense. :-)

  9. Emily, how do you get your ideas for your books?

    1. Oh, ideas come at the craziest times. I get most of my ideas while driving, though. I'm an awful driver. Five minutes in the car will get my mind wandering to far and wonderful places. The Farsighted series came to me on a road trip, and the idea for my next YA series, The Timewalker Chronicles, came during a 10 minute drive to Panera--the whole series!

  10. Thanks for the giveaway! I'd love to win since my library doesn't have either of these books on its shelves and Farsighted has been on my TBR forever. My question for Ms. Chand is about writing a series. First, when you wrote book 1, did you know it was going to be a series? Second, did you start the other books in the series before book 1 got published? And third, do you plan and outline your stories before writing?

    1. Whoa, Samantha. Those are some serious questions! Somehow I knew Farsighted would be a series when I started it, and I knew it would be a 5-book series as well. I published Farsighted first and took a few months off before starting Open Heart. Ditto on moving from Open Heart to book #3, Pitch. I don't make outlines, but I spend an enormous amount of time in my head, daydreaming about the characters and potential plot lines. I also spend a ton of time doing research and getting into the world. Since book #3 features a psychic medium, I'm reading up on memoirs of famous mediums to learn how they describe their gifts. Basically, I could tell you what happens in book #5, even though I haven't started writing #3 yet!

    Who is your favorite author?

    1. I have such eclectic reading tastes, but my favorite author would have to be John Irving (Cider House Rules, Prayer for Owen Meany). I'm also a HUGE Potterhead!

My question is do you ever listen to any music whilst writing?

    1. Oh, yes! I have playlists for each of my YA novels, and I listen to Fleetwood Mac while writing my lit fic. My playlists are here if you want to check them out - http://grooveshark.com/#!/user/Emlyn+Chand/14277281/music/playlists

  16. Do you find it hard or easy to switch into another character's voice? I think if I was an author one of my biggest challenges would be making my characters different.

  17. Looking forward to something like this. Trying something like reviewing a book should be fun.
