#Interview with Diamante Lavender, #Author of Breaking the Silence

About the Author:

Diamante Lavendar has been in love with reading since she was a child. She spent many hours listening to her mother read to her when she was young. As she grew older, she enjoyed reading novels of all genres: horror, fantasy and some romance to name a few.
She began writing in college and published some poetry in anthologies over the years. After her kids were older, she wrote as a form of self expression and decided she wanted to share her stories with others.
Most of her writing is very personal and stems from her own experiences and those of her family and friends. She writes to encourage hope and possibility to those who read her stories.
Diamante believes that everyone should try to leave their own positive mark in the world, to make it a better place for all. Writing is the way that she is attempting to leave her mark—one story at a time.

Interview with the Author:

When did you first realize that you wanted to be a writer/ a storyteller?
I have had writing in my blood since I was born, I think.  When I learned how to print words in elementary school I began making very easy rhyming poetry.  That graduated to stories and more complicated poetry.

What inspires you to write?
I love nature and find it very inspiring.  I also find spirituality extremely inspiring.  When I am alone and have no distractions, that is also inspiring to me.  Those are the times that I write the best.

How did you come up with the idea for your current story?
Unfortunately, both of my books thus far have been inspired by great pain in my life.  My book The Secrets Of Yashire began to bubble out of me after my daughter passed away.  It is filled with the things (there are virtues in the book) that I wished for her to have learned in life.  My book Breaking The Silence is an autobiography written in a fictional memoir format which speaks of the abuse I suffered and my journey to healing.  But happily, I will say that the current work in progress is inspired by inspiration!!

Tell us about your writing process.
I get inspired, I sit down and I write!  I don't plan out plot lines or characters...they just kind of evolve when I'm writing.  If the story contains a lot of characters, however, I do write a list of them on a piece of paper and make notes so that I don't forget while I'm finishing the manuscript!

What is your favorite scene in the book? Why?
I think my favorite part of Breaking The Silence is the end.....for obvious reasons.  But I don't want to talk about it and give the story away!!

Did any of your characters inherit some of your own quirks?
All of the characters are part of my real life so the main character is me and she has ALL of my quirks!  Poor kid!!

What is your most interesting writing quirk?
I tend to be very imaginative so I think the fiction/fantasy realm is my strong suit of coming up with some rather weird things at times (you'll see what I mean if you read The Secrets Of Yashire).  It has actually been compared to Alice In Wonderland.  Need I say more?

Do you read? Who are your favourite authors and how have they influenced your writing style?
I do read...but mostly to do reviews at this point.  I pleasure read inspirational authors like Joyce Meyers, Joel Osteen and Larry Huch.  When I have free time, I try to better myself by becoming engrossed in those types of books.  Plus God is my foundation....without Him I'm literally toast!!!

What is the best piece of advice you have received, as a writer, till date?
Write what's in your heart.  Don't worry about what other people think.  Because at the end of the day, each of us as writers have unique pieces inside of us that come out in our writing.

What is the best piece of advice you would give to someone that wants to get into writing?
Do it and don't look back.  Don't worry about the process or the marketing or any of it.  If it's in your heart, just do it!

What would be the Dream Cast for you book if it was to be turned into a movie?
If Breaking The Silence made it to the Big Screen, I would definitely want Emma Stone to play the main character of my story named Joan.  I think she would do a wonderful job of portraying the drama and pain that Joan went through in her life.
For the family members that molested Joan, the two male actors which I believe would bring the most evil to the characters portrayed would be Robert Pattinson and Ian Somerhalder.  The third molester who was female would be best portrayed by Glenn Close.  (She is particularly adept at portraying psychotic characters).
I think Sharon Stone would do a great job of portraying Joan's mother and Alec Baldwin would do a wonderful job portraying Joan's father.  Their combined efforts would undoubtedly bring a harrowing and haunting perspective to the movie.
Paul Wesley would be a perfect actor for Joan's brother Tommy  because he is well able to portray good and bad quite easily in his characters.  And last but not least, Patrick Flueger would make a grand addition to the cast as Joan's quiet, more behind the scenes husband Steve.
With all of these talented people working together, all of the disturbing  and life changing innuendos of Breaking The Silence surely would be expressed!

If you were to be stranded on the famous deserted island, what three things would you carry?
A magnifying glass, an extra pair of shoes and flares!  (That is my more serious answer...so I can build fires, walk comfortably and attract help!)  My goofy answer....a boat, a big motor and tons of gasoline!  (Obviously that's only for the superhero me!)

How do you spend your free time? Do you have a favorite place to go and unwind?
I love nature.  Its peacefulness soothes me greatly.  That's the only thing besides my grandchild, my art and my cats that make me peaceful.

Can you share with us something off your bucket list?
To be a best selling author!!

Tell us three fun facts about yourself.
One, I love comedy.  I think laughing is extremely good for the soul.
Two, I am very introverted and prefer to stick to myself.
Three, I am very artistic and love to create new things.

What do you have in store next for your readers?
The book I am currently working on (or trying to work on when I'm not working my day job) is  an adult fiction story set in medieval times with facets of mystery, romance, inspirational and fantasy genres all wrapped into it.  I am hoping to have it published by next March.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with your readers?
I hope that my books change my readers' lives in some little way, even if just by making them happy or giving them a little dose of hope.  I write in an attempt to make the world a little better place and I hope I can accomplish that goal!

About the Books:
Joan Eastman was born like any other girl. However her life would prove to be a life of great pain…

Growing up, she was treated differently by family members, powerless to defend herself against their sexual and psychological abuse. Feeling she had been dealt a wicked hand by the “powers that be”, she spiraled into substance abuse and troubled relationships. She became a victim of addiction and self-hatred.
Not giving up, she becomes aware of a greater spiritual being that protects her and she begins to heal. Then she finds herself pregnant. She learns to understand nothing is hopeless; that with a changed view and self discovery, there is real hope in every situation, no matter how difficult.
As she and her husband look forward to the birth of their child, she writes in her diary as a way of expelling all of the evil memories. On bed rest for the duration of her pregnancy, she endures tests and tribulations that at first she couldn’t begin to understand. But no matter how high the hurdles in Joan’s life are, she doesn’t look back, and pulls the pieces of her life together…for herself and her unborn child.
This inspirational story speaks of Joan’s gradual self acceptance and healing of her body, mind and spirit. It speaks of the possibilities of the future and the fulfillment of the dream of love and family. And it speaks of jumping the hurdles in life without looking back, no matter how high those hurdles may be.

This is a young adult fantasy adventure that occurs within the framework of a young girl's subconscious mind. The main character, Brianna, finds herself thrown into a world called Yashire where she is forced to deal with circumstances that are threatening Yashire's existence. Against her will, she is sent on a journey to restore unconditional love back to the land while also contending with the evil force in the land, Zolan. Brianna is sent on her mission by Libban, Keeper of the Land. Along the way, Brianna travels with the mystical tiger, Angelos; a huge, whitish-tan tiger with thick black stripes who sings only the purest songs of love, and the wondrous little one-eyed bird named Abiba. During the journey, Brianna is also preparing to meet her soulmate-the one she longs to be with and the one who will bring complete healing back into her life. Together they travel through fantastic lands filled with magical creatures that could only exist in the wildest of imaginations. Through her treacherous brushes with danger and heartwarming experiences of love and acceptance, Brianna discovers many things. It is here, amidst the powers and phantasms of the mind that Brianna receives life lessons and virtues to help her. Will one of her greatest triumphs be achieved as she learns to believe in herself? For only then can she truly see all of the wondrous things that life has to offer.
