#Interview with Cynthia Austin, #Author of The Pendant Series

About the Author:
Cynthia Austin lives in Northern California with her husband, two boys, and Olde English Bulldogge named Count Dogula. They love all things horror, gothic, and Victorian which prompts her friends to dub them as “The Adams Family.”
She is an avid reader who may be slightly obsessed with music. She hears music in a way that she believes the artist intended it to be heard: visually, with a storyline that follows. Listening to the songs by her favorite artists, she was inspired to write her first series titled “The Pendant.”
Cynthia has been published twice in The Writer’s Monthly Magazine as well as the online news site, Yahoo! Voices. She currently attends Diablo Valley College, in Pleasant Hill, California, where she is working to achieve her degree in English.

An Interview with the Author:

What inspires you to write?
Music. Since the time I was a small child, I remember sitting in front of the radio imagining an entire music video that I would create had I been the bands producer. Growing into an adult, I still found myself daydreaming while listening to music, imagining a vivid video that I would have created. One day, I decided to do something about it I grabbed and pen and piece of paper, listened to my favorite songs and created Sidney Sinclair’s world.

How did you come up with the idea for your current story?
The music I listen to is very dark. There are a lot of lyrics about selling your soul, escaping from the afterlife etc, etc. I knew I wanted to link my story to something similar but I didn’t want to create the generic tale of an innocent girl falling in love with the Devil, so I did a little research, found some very interesting characters from Jewish folklore and ran with it. Creating my own, spiritually twisted love story.

Are there some stories tucked away in some drawer that was written before and never saw the light of the day?
I have enough pages to continue into Book 4 and even 5 of The Pendant series, however at this time, I am undecided if they will ever surface.

What is your favorite scene in the book? Why?
Without any spoilers, my favorite part of the story in during Book 3 in the mausoleum. The scene was inspired by Taking Back Sunday’s song, “I’ll let you live.” I listened to that song, over and over again always envisioning a make believe scene when Adam screams into the microphone, “How dangerous is second best?” With this story, my vision finally happened. Not visually, but in the form of a book which to me, is way better than any music video!

Do you read? Who are your favourite authors and how have they influenced your writing style?
Anything by the Bronte sisters: Of course they assisted my writing when we flipped back in time to the Garden in The Pendant Series.
Kelly Favor: She’s inspired me to dip my feet into erotica writing while keeping my focus on the main story at hand. (love scenes take the backburner)
My newest discovery is L.A. Wild’s The Darkness Series which I cannot get enough of. I hope to create my next character just as strong willed as Wild’s character, Summer Keese.

What would be the Dream Cast for you book if it was to be turned into a movie?
I think about this one all the time:
Aubrey Peeples as Sidney Sinclair
Toby Rego as Ray Ryker
Jackson Rathbone as Adrian McAllister

Can you share with us something off your bucket list?
A trip to New Orleans!

What do you have in store next for your readers?
My next series will be slightly elevated for a more adult audience. Of course there will be another love triangle but the players this time around are older and 100% human. There will be no angels or demons in this story…just old fashioned skeletons hanging out in someone’s closet. The ending will have a twist just as jaw dropping as The Pendant Series did.
