*** Special Feature - November 2016 ***

Meet Aniesha Brahma

I never know how to answer the question that tells me to introduce myself. I do identify with being a writer, but that doesn’t mean that is all I am. For the longest time I’d been someone’s little sister, someone’s younger daughter. My identity was tied to the people around me. As I get older, I realize our identities are tied to nothing but who we choose to become as human beings.

I could tell you about where I studied and what subjects I specialized in. But that doesn’t make me who I am. I’m not the colour of my skin, or the clothes that I wear. I am instead perhaps all the thoughts I kept from the books which I read. I am perhaps a person who has learned the hard way that being kind to people is a virtue. Because every single person we meet is fighting a battle we have no idea about. I am the words I speak, and I am the words I write. I am a part of every story that I decide to tell this world.

I haven’t found a single person who looks at life the way I do. But that’s okay. This world is made of all kinds of people. And I am just an insignificant little dot compared to this amazing Universe that we’re part of.

Let me tell you why I write though. I write stories in order to tell the world that not everything ends happily, and that’s okay. Because, sometimes the stories that you live through are the ones that will change your life the most! I write stories to give people hope. I write to give myself strength. I write to find out how I’d react in certain situations...sometimes I write to fix the errors of reality in fiction. But once again, being a writer is just a part of who I am.

So I guess when I formally introduce myself I say, I am a writer and I work at BEE Books, as a social media manager. I also happen to run an online magazine called BUZZ Magazine (www.buzzmagazine.in). I also happen to blog, and I always reply to everyone who has ever written to me. (www.anieshabrahma.com). But...that’s just the formal introduction of mine. There’s so much more to me than what meets the eye. And this holds true for the seven billion other people who share this world with us! To whoever is reading this, don’t limit yourself. You’re so much more than you think. You’re an amazing person – you just haven’t realized it yet!
