#FaveFiveFriday - Fave Five Genres

#FaveFiveFriday is an initiative by Buzz Magazine



1. Mystery / Crime
Books that made me fall in love with reading were by Satyajit Ray & Agatha Christie. Feluda, Poirot and Miss Marple charmed me into building a reading habit. And so, this is the genre that remains always tops my preference list. I would prefer picking up a good Murder Mystery over everything else. Who doesn't like a gripping 'Whodunnit'?

Recommendations: Death on the Nile, Murder of Roger Ackroyd, Rebecca, Woman in White, The Hound of Baskervilles, The Final Problem.


2. Suspense / Action Thriller
Car chases, lots of action and near death situations make for entertaining reads. The excitement, the anticipation and the suspense is just intoxicating. 

Recommendations: Lee Child, Chris Kuzneski, Andy McNab, James Patterson, Tom Clancy, James Rollins, Oliver Bowden.


3. Fantasy / Speculative Fiction
I got into reading fantasy quite late. I used to think that magic and magical creatures belong to fairy tales and were meant for kids. I used to find it amusing that adults could believe in stories with dragons... Till I picked up Harry Potter. And the rest, as they say is history. 

Recommendations: Game of Thrones, Throne of Glass, Six of Crows, Harry Potter, The Handmaid's Tale, The Young Elite.


4. Young Adult
When Harry Potter proved me wrong about my notion about Fantasy, I started reading more genres and more of genres other than mysteries... Young Adult stuck with me too.

Recommendations: Diary of Anne Frank, The Book Thief, Fault in our Stars, Wonder, Anne of Green Gables.


5. Literary Fiction
I love this genre because the books in this genre are always a learning experience. They push me to think outside my comfort zone sometimes and challenges me to understand and empathize with people and situations. Sometimes they are real scary with how relatable they are too.

Recommendations: The Colour Purple, The Sense of an Ending, Little Women, Kite Runner, Perfume.

#FaveFiveFriday - Book to Movie/TV Series Adaptations


#FaveFiveFriday is an initiative by Buzz Magazine 

5. The Shawshank Redemption - Movie
 The Movie is based on Stephen King's Novella Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption. The movie took a few liberties and made some changes to the story, but the end product is amazing. It is my favourite Prison Break movie ever. If you haven't watched it till now (I doubt it), go watch it NOW!


4. 13 Reasons Why - Netflix Original Series
Based on Jay Asher's Young Adult Novel of the same name, 13 Reasons Why released recently and was quite talked about on the social media. It is a difficult one to digest, nevertheless a must watch for those who are responsible for teenagers in their lives.


 3. P.S. I Love You - Movie
 Oh! I had such a crush on Gerry (and Gerard Butler by extension) after this movie! This was probably the first movie based on a book that I ever liked. (I usually prefer the books always). The liberties taken to make changes were well done. I still need tissues when I re-watch it.


2. Fault in Our Stars - Movie
 Director Josh Boone has done a great job in capturing the emotions of young Augustus Waters and Hazel Grace Lancaster. Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort brought life to two of my favourite characters by John Green. The book gave me the feels and so did the movie. Keep a box of tissues handy when you watch this film.


1. The Book Thief - Movie
My love for this film is all down to Sophie Nélisse & Geoffrey Rush. The film has been adapted well from the book. But is Sophie's portrayal of young Liesel Meminger that absolutely took my heart away. Geoffrey Rush's portrayal of Hans, the adoptive father is also done really well.

#FaveFiveFriday - Book Sibling


#FaveFiveFriday is an initiative by Buzz Magazine 



#5 - The Pevensies

I read Chronicles of Narnia at quite an early age. Susan, Peter, Edmund and Lucy were the siblings that I grew up with along with the Famous Five. Being the youngest member of the joint family that I grew up in, I fancied myself to be Lucy though I had 4 elder brothers rather than 2 brothers and a sister. I loved Lucy and felt that she was the most innocent and wise girl. I loved her to bits and even decades later, she has a special place in my heart.


#4 - Katniss & Prim Everdeen

Katniss volunteered for The Hunger Games to take Prim's place. That says it all. Katniss's protective quality shows throughout the series but it was that moment in the first book when she volunteered that took my heart away. 


#3 - The March Sisters

Sisters Meg, Joe, Beth, and Amy March are the most lovable bunch of siblings. Different as they are from each other, they are all for one and one for all whenever the situation calls for it.


#2 - Feluda & Topshe

As a Bong, I grew up on a healthy diet of Satyajit Ray's 'Adventures of Feluda'. The duo took me on a number of adventures with Feluda educating me and Topshe on an array of subjects ranging from geometry to telepathy.


#1 - Weasley Twins

"The thing about growing up with Fred and George, is that you sort of start thinking anything's possible if you've got enough nerve." 
If I had to choose someone from the fictional world to come to life, it would be Fred & George. Always the ones for pranks and laugh, but also with very genuine hearts.
