#BookReview & #Spotlight :: The Stopover by Deepa Pinto & Ram Prakash

4 stories, in 4 locations, brought alive with over 100 photos.

The Stopover is a book for those who believe that every new place we visit and every culture we experience enriches our lives and that at every stopover in the journey of life is an exciting new treasure trove. It has stories of 4 such stopovers, a combination of fiction & fact brought alive through photographs.

One of the Authors, Deepa Pinto, approached me few days back with a sample excerpt of this book. I got a pdf copy of it.

At a glance he book looks amazing! The photos are simply superb and the format - layout makes it look very inviting. I could almost feel the smooth Glossy pages [yes I have a very vivid imagination].

In its pdf format it was a bit difficult for me concentrate on the actual story. Firstly, because the photos were so good that my eyes kept going back to them. Secondly, because in its e-format - it was difficult to read on a computer -- (enlarge - navigate & read) -- this may not be a problem in the actual physical copy.

Whatever jist I got from the few pages, the language is good and the story 'The Tibetan wheel of wisdom' has a very good start.

Once satisfied with the contents of the book, my concern shifted over to its price. I usually have a monthly budget for my book shopping binge, and with the quality of the print and photos, I instantly assumed that this book is going to be priced at the higher end. But the author assured me that while the photographs and the production quality would be at par with a coffee table book, the MRP of the book would be 495/- INR! That deserves three words!! Oh-My-God!! Exactly... Can you imagine being able to get a Fiction with over 100 Quality photos for that price? I certainly can not.

Let me make this clear - those awesome photos and 4 interesting work of fiction and that price has made the deal for me. I am going to be first in line to buy this book when it hits the market.
