#BannedBookWeek :: List of Books I have read! {& loved}

In the spirit of Banned Books Week, here's a list of Banned Books that I have read. Shhhh... Don't tell anyone :P

This is one of the first books that I have read and I absolutely loved Mad-Hatter.
When I found this book listed under 'Banned Book' - "I was like, Really? Why?"

Used to be banned in the province of Hunan, China, beginning in 1931 for its portrayal of anthropomorphized animals acting on the same level of complexity as human beings.

This is the first book that had actually had me stop and take a look at my own life. Really touching and one of the few 'Must-Read-Again-and-Again' books for me.

Banned in Lebanon for "portray[ing] Jews, Israel or Zionism favorably"

I have thoroughly enjoyed this book and as a kid, this was the first book to give me the 'creeps' followed by Dracula.

Banned in apartheid South Africa in 1955 for containing "obscene" or "indecent" material.

Even though I don't particularly agree with the message that this book sends out [that love can only happen with the element of the body, not the mind.], I have enjoyed reading this one too.

Temporarily banned in the United States and the United Kingdom for violation of obscenity laws; both bans were lifted in 1959 and 1960, respectively. Banned in Australia from 1929 to 1965.

Okay so, for a change I may 'understand' why this book ended up on this list. But still, I did like the style of narration.

French officials banned it for being "obscene," as did the United Kingdom, Argentina, New Zealand (uncensored 1964) and South Africa.Banned in Canada in 1958, though the ban was later lifted.

This is an Amazing Book and beyond that I have no words.

Banned in the following countries for alleged blasphemy against Islam: Bangladesh, Egypt, India, Iran, Kenya, Kuwait, Liberia, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Pakistan, Senegal, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Tanzania and Thailand.

I don't think there's anyone who hasn't read or heard of this particular book. I am still wondering how it came to be on this list.

It was banned and burned in many US states for promoting witchcraft, and also banned in some Christian schools in the UK.

Somebody banned this book??? I mean Really???? Why? I thoroughly enjoyed the book.

This book has been banned by many libraries in different American states for different reasons.

Once again... Why??? Its sooooo Good!

This book has attracted controversy for its use of racially charged language.

In true Maragaret Mitchel Fashion “My dear, I don't give a damn.” as I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

the novel has also been banned in the past in various US states for containing racist language.

Yet another book I have no idea why it landed up on this list!

This book was banned in the USA for reasons of: homosexuality, sexually explicit, anti-family, offensive language, religious viewpoint, unsuited to age group, drugs and suicide.

I have to admit that I probably wouldn't have picked this one up if it hadn't been for my friend. I am grateful to her for introducing me to this book as this is one of my favourites.

This was a part of my school curriculum...

It has just come to my attention that I have actually enjoyed every single 'Banned Book' that I have read! So, I think I am going to make it a point to read all the books on that list as soon as possible, starting with these three:

I have referred to Wikipedia & Banned books for the list of banned books & the reasons.
