#Interview :: Cate Beauman, #Author of The Bodyguards of L.A. County Series

Cate currently lives in Tennessee with her husband, their two boys, and St. Bernards, Bear and Jack. She is the author of the best selling romantic suspense series, The Bodyguards of L.A. County.  Before her career as an author, Cate worked in special education for 12 years.
“I’m a pretty lucky girl; one day I woke up and my entire life changed. I saw the light, so to speak, and decided I was going to be a writer. Now, three years later, I’m working on my seventh novel, Saving Sophie, and I’m an Amazon best selling author.  I’m very grateful for the support and success I have had.  - Cate

Hi Cate, Welcome back to b00k r3vi3ws.

Thanks so much for having me!

We last talked just before the release of Justice for Abby and now Saving Sophie has released… What was the feedback like for Justice for Abby?

I’m so excited to say that readers really enjoyed Abby and Jerrod’s story! Abby and Jerrod have great chemistry. She’s vivacious and sweet despite the horrific experience she went through, and Jerrod is much more guarded and low-key, but they compliment each other well. Add a lot of danger to the mix, and you’ve got the makings for a great novel!

Seven Amazon Bestsellers under your belt now. It isn’t an easy feat… How has it changed your life?

I can only say how incredibly grateful I am! Four years ago I didn’t even know I could write, now I get to stay home and tell stories everyday. It’s awesome!
I love that I get to write full-time and have more time for my family. This is truly a dream come true!

How are you balancing your personal life and writing life?

I think balance is the most challenging part of my job, as I’m sure it is for so many. I have two busy kids, dogs, and a millions thoughts crowding my brain everyday, but the key is finding time for everyone and everything. When my kids are in school, I write and take time to keep in touch with my fans. Once school is over, I concentrate on my family. After everyone’s in bed, I work for a couple of hours, wake up, and do the same thing again!

What are your expectations from Saving Sophie and what should your reader’s expect?

I’m hoping my readers love Sophie and Stone as much as they do the rest of the characters in The Bodyguards of L.A. County series.
Stone and Sophie are an odd paring…at first. Stone’s a hard ass and Sophie is quiet and kind, yet their dynamics work. Sophie’s in a lot of trouble, and she needs Stone’s help—whether either of them like it or not! :)

I have seen your playlists for different books (and listened to them too)… How does music help you in your writing process?

I love music! I can’t write without it. Pandora or YouTube plays constantly while I work. Certain songs in particular really motivate me—kind of like when you find the perfect tunes to work out to. I love finding lyrics that mesh well with the stories I’m trying to tell. I make a playlist and listen to them over and over again.

If you were to compare the lead characters from all your novels, what would bring them together and what would make them stand apart from each other?

I try hard to make the men and women of Ethan Cooke Security come alive among the pages of each novel. Part of the process is allowing the characters to be as authentic as you and me. Every person has strengths and weaknesses. They make mistakes and are flawed. All of my characters are the same way.
I think what makes them all different are the parts that make you and me different—their pasts and all that they’ve had to overcome and experience, their gestures, and unique personalities.
I think that’s why readers enjoy this series so much. It’s fun to read about people you can identify with.

Tell us about one of the best books you have read in recent times (other than yours, of course).

In all honesty, the only thing I’ve been reading lately is my children’s homework! Life around this house is pretty crazy these days. I’m hoping to have a chance to sit down with Nora Roberts’ The Collector in the near future.

As usual, what’s next?

Currently, I’m working on Reagan’s Redemption, book eight in The Bodyguards of L.A. County Series, which will chronicle Shane Harper and Doctor Reagan Rosner while they travel deep into the hills of Western Kentucky. Shane and Reagan encounter more than they expect while serving on The Appalachia Project, a humanitarian effort that will bring medical aide to a reluctant community.

WHEN THE ONLY CHOICE IS TO RUN…

Jewelry designer Sophie Burke has fled Maine for the anonymity of the big city. She’s starting over with a job she tolerates and a grungy motel room she calls home on the wrong side of town, but anything is better than the nightmare she left behind.

Stone McCabe is Ethan Cooke Security’s brooding bad boy more interested in keeping to himself than anything else—until the gorgeous blond with haunted violet eyes catches his attention late one rainy night.

Stone reluctantly gives Sophie a hand only to quickly realize that the shy beauty with the soft voice and pretty smile has something to hide. Tangled up in her secrets, Stone offers Sophie a solution that has the potential to free her from her problems once and for all—or jeopardize both of their lives.
