#BookReview :: The Hard Way (Jack Reacher #10) by Lee Child

Jack Reacher is alone, the way he likes it.

He watches a man cross a New York street and drive away in a Mercedes. The car contains $1 million of ransom money. Reacher's job is to make sure it all turns out right - money paid, family safely returned.

But Reacher is in the middle of a nasty little war where nothing is simple.
What started on a busy New York street explodes three thousand miles away, in the sleepy English countryside.

Reacher's going to have to do this one the hard way.

All Reacher wants is to spend some time soaking New York as much as he can. But as fate would have it, he gets caught up in a case. Edward Lane’s wife and child has been kidnapped and the kidnapper wants a ransom. Edward involves the police and pays the ransom to no end. Then he hires Jack Reacher to finish the job. Is that his best or worst move? Because Edward Lane has a history that Jack Reacher is bound to find out…

I love this series like no other. Jack Reacher is a guy who delivers time and again and he did not fail this time either. The plot was interesting as we see Reacher’s sense of honour and justice kick in. As the plot goes on, Reacher discovers that Lane’s first wife had also been kidnapped and had gotten killed in a botched FBI Case. The agent responsible for that case is back in action too, as is the sister of Lane’s first wife; and there is some amount of NYPD involvement.

The book is filled with action and drama and not a dull moment. I thoroughly enjoyed reading about Reacher doing his thing. Whether it is his exceptional observation power or whether it is his ‘little grey cells’ or whether it is him in action, he never fails to surprise me. The only fault I can find with this book is the pacing in the middle which lagged a bit while we waited for Reacher to work out everything.
