Books about Love that I Love

I’ve spent a lot of time wondering what I should write about and then I realise the answer is exceptionally simple – books. And since it’s February and the month of love and Valentine’s Day, they would have to be books about love. This list, this incredible list, is of the romance novels that will live in my heart forever.

Again The Magic – Lisa Kleypas

Again the magic is a beautiful second chance historical romance. McKenna, the stable boy, and Aline, the earl’s daughter, are childhood friends and soulmates. Their story, both past and present, is beautifully written, carefully fleshed out and impossibly angsty and real. The class differences, the societal chasm, the heartbreaking reality that governs them and the love that triumphs over it all is a story that has stayed with me long since I finished this book.

Red, White and Royal Blue – Casey McQuiston

When the son of the first female President of the United States falls in love with the Prince of Wales, how could this story be anything but magnificent? When exquisite writing meets a strong story, magic happens on the page. If there is one thing in 2019 I look back on fondly, it’s reading this book and the truly wonderful scenes it left me with. Sensitive, sensible and superlative, this book will stay on my all time favourite list for, quite possibly, ever.

When He Was Wicked – Julia Quinn

Michael Stirling and Francesca Bridgerton are romance goals. Michael has loved Francesca forever. Unfortunately, she’s married, at that point, to his cousin, the Earl of Kilmartin. Now, his cousin is dead and Michael is the new Earl and still loves his now widowed sister-in-law with all of his sinful heart. A beautiful romance on grief, loss, on finding love again, on recognizing love where you never knew it existed, and finally on knowing that even when you lose someone you love, they’d want you to be happy. They’d want you to move on. They’d want you to LIVE.

Heart of Obsidian – Nalini Singh

When the most powerful man in the world, a cardinal telekinetic falls in love, what can you expect but the most epic love story of all time. Kaleb Krychek has only ever loved one person, Sahara Kyriakus. When Sahara is taken from him, brutally and violently, he makes it his life’s mission to find her and rescue her. Dark, intense and passionate, this love story makes you dream of a love so strong that it literally battles the world and wins.

The Kiss Quotient – Helen Hoang

The love story between a heroine with Aspergers and the escort she hires to help her learn how to make love is precious. It’s tender, gentle and passionate while being sensitive to and honest about the reality of living with Aspergers. It isn’t easy to write a story that balances all the nuances that this plot requires but Helen Hoang does a superlative job of it. It makes you laugh, cry and yearn…God, it makes you yearn for a love that truly sees you, respects you and in every sense of the word, celebrates you.
