Interview with Author Taralynn Moore
When did you first realize that you wanted to be a writer/ a storyteller?
For as long as I can remember, I’ve written: journals, poetry, songs, short stories. Words have always been my friend, whether they’re mine or belong to someone else.
What inspires you to write?
Different takes on relationships and all the variations of love. From romantic connections to family and friendships, testing the bonds of loyalty and compromise are always super interesting to me.
How did you come up with the idea for your current story?
The idea of a love triangle without possessiveness or jealousy intrigued me. Those tropes can be fun sometimes, and I love the tension they provide, but too often they paint a heroine in the role of property. In the story of King David of Israel, he and Jon were able to maintain a friendship despite the lure of a kingdom between them. It was from that connection that I was inspired to retell their story but instead of a crown between them, there would be a girl/love-interest and her family company.
Are there some stories tucked away in some drawer that was written before and never saw the light of the day?
The first book I ever attempted was many years ago. It currently sits a sad state saved for a later time. Some day I’d love to finish When it Rains as I love the premise of it still.
Tell us about your writing process.
My writing process involves a lot of coffee and music! Coffee because I’m often writing at night after finishing a days work and spending time with my family. Music because I find so much inspiration from lyrics, to mood and pacing. All my books have playlists that help me move from scene to scene.
What is your favorite scene in the book? Why?
My favorite scene in King Unveiled is one that came about quite unexpectedly. It was one of those rare moments when you start a scene and it takes on a life of its own. I love those moments. Without giving away too many spoilers, Bria finds herself at a ballet and becomes inexplicably linked to the performer. She ends up reenacting the entire dance herself on a rooftop beneath the glowing moon and much to her detriment.
Did any of your characters inherit some of your own quirks?
Bria inherited what I see in myself as a quiet strength. I’m not a super brazen or outspoken person all the time, but I can be sometimes. I often observe the world, especially when I was younger, from the outside looking in, But, like Bria, I had to learn when, and how, to speak up in my own way, with my own voice. I love super strong female leads, but not everyone’s strength is at the same frequency. It’s a good thing to show heroines of all types finding their own unique paths.
What is your most interesting writing quirk?
My most interesting writing quirk is the need to rewind and read before I can jump in and write. I have to feel settled about what I’ve written in order to move forward. I totally envy those that can jot out words at a super quick pace. I also have a tendency to spell things as a British author would instead of an American author. My editor has to keep an eye out for it! I think it’s from growing up reading so many classics.
Do you read? Who are your favourite authors and how have they influenced your writing style?
I love to read! Everything from Jane Austen to Tahereh Mafi. Mafi in particular has influenced me the most lately in terms of being bold in playing with rhythms and sentence structure. Her work gave me permission to play a bit more myself.
What is the best piece of advice you have received, as a writer, till date?
The best piece of advice I’ve had to date is to trust yourself. It’s not always easy as writers because there is so much exacting advice given, rules listed, absolutes stated. The truth is, though, that you can follow those all so much, you lose yourself. Remembering your why and how you started is so important. That and accepting that you can’t write to please everyone. It’s simply not possible.
What is the best piece of advice you would give to someone that wants to get into writing?
If writing is merely an escape for you, reconsider pursuing a professional path. You have to be willing and able to take the hits and put in the work. The creative fulfillment is a much smaller part of the business than you think in the beginning. And you have to fight sometimes to hang on to it.
What would be the Dream Cast for you book if it was to be turned into a movie?
I have a picture of actress and model Jasmine Sanders from when she first started out in the industry that I go back to for my Bria inspiration all the time. Zendaya has such a regal strength about her that I’d love to see brought to life as my Bria as well.
If you were to be stranded on the famous deserted island, what three things would you carry?
I was going to write about my husband and children, but for the sake of my readers, I have to say Bria, David and Jon. There is a diehard group of them that would love nothing more than for the love triangle trio to live out their days together in bliss on an island together! I think you may even find mention of it in reviews somewhere.
How do you spend your free time? Do you have a favorite place to go and unwind?
I honestly love being home and spending time with my family after a busy week. A good meal and movie night is my typical unwind. However, for vacations, I love anything beautiful and scenic. From beaches to mountains, I find the world so fascinating and breathtaking. I guess that’s why I include so much scenery in King Unveiled, and the books to come.
What do you have in store next for your readers?
Up next for my readers I have the second book in the King series, King Abdication, due out in April of 2020. I’ve also got a few more novellas lined up that will be part of a holiday collection I started in 2019 with my first release in that series, Beneath the Lights.

Two loves.
Unending lies.
Bria has no idea her life is a carefully woven tapestry of design and predestination. Until a helicopter, a quiet beach cove, and the pull of piano chords usher in the unraveling of her world.
And David.
His music sparked her spirit, long before she knew him, before she knew herself. Now, with love and lives on the line, they can’t escape their fated connection or the family company that owns them and their hearts.
Jon has been her constant companion. Her rock. Her anchor. But when the perfect outcome of their parental set-up turns out to be a cover, her protected existence begins to fall apart, and so does their relationship and its foundation of necessary lies.
All three must unite, must fight, for family, for freedom, with a bond so strong even torn hearts can’t tear them apart.
Let sweeping descriptions, heated action scenes, and quiet romantic moments keep you on a pinwheel of emotions you won't soon forget.
