Interview with David A. Wimsett
If you had a free day with no responsibilities and your only mission was to enjoy yourself, what would you do?
Three things.
1) Read; books and articles
2) Watch movies at home; anything in my library that includes dramas, comedies, romances, sci-fi, fantasy and animation
3) Take a walk with the dog
If you could spend the day with someone you admire (living or dead or imaginary), who would you pick?
Margaret Atwood. She is not just an amazing author and poet, she is a remarkable human being. I would love to sit down over a cup of tea and discuss writing, feminism, current affairs, history, politics and, well, just about anything.
What is your idea of perfect happiness? And, what is your current state of mind?
My idea of perfect happiness is the act of writing. I don’t write from outlines. I start with a concept. I will have an idea of the kind of things I want to talk about and sometimes the direction the story will go in with some vague idea of where it will wind up.
As I begin writing, the plot and characters suggest possibilities. It will become obvious in my mind that characters will have a particular reaction based on what I have already written about them as I delve deeper into their psyches. I will imagine plot devices that are completely unexpected. My original idea of how the story will unfold will take turns and twists. The end may be completely different than what I envisioned. It will always be richer and more complex.
It is a wondrous adventure of discovery as I write and rewrite, the process where the book actually become a novel. I constantly find surprises, as if I am watching a movie for the first time in my mind. I see the places, people and action and hear the sounds.
As to my current state of mind, I am very happy. I am expressing myself and sharing my stories with others. Over many years and through many trials, I have come to know who I am and what I truly want, which don’t always get, of course. Still, I continue sharing my stories with their observations as often as possible while I bring others into my life to experience who they are and how they perceive the world. True, honest human contact is the greatest joy. Sometimes we all stumble. Sometimes we face overwhelming challenges. Sometime we fail. I certainly have. Yet, even in our deepest despair, life is wondrous, for it is finite and precious while we have it.
What do you consider to be the most overrated virtue and why?
Smart homes. I can use a wall switch to turn on a light when I enter a room. I don’t need an app. I’m already there. Once I program a wall mounted thermostat, I don’t need to change it. Technology, intelligently used, is wonderful. Technology used just for the sake of operating an electronic device can simply be silly. The fact that you can do a thing doesn’t necessarily mean that you should.
Tell us 3 things about yourself that the readers do not know about.
1) I am a single father and raised my son from the age of six until he moved out on his own.
2) My taste in music ranges from folk to classical, world, jazz, blues, big band swing, rock, heavy metal and pop. I am a big Pink Floyd and Mozart fan.
3) I am an actor and have appeared on stage in dramas, comedies and musicals.

A man and a woman must work together as equals to prevent sorcerers from waking an evil dragon who would bring a reign of terror while, at the same time, rival baronies plot civil war. The story takes place in a gender balanced world where women and men earn the same respect, opportunities and authority. Dragons Unremembered is a novel filled with action, battles, fantastic creatures, lost legends, forgotten lands, diverse cultures, languages, poetry and songs for which the author composed musical scores with lyrics and notation that are found in an appendix.
Among those drawn into this web are twin brothers, Prince Ryckair and Prince Craya, and Lady Mirjel, daughter of a powerful baron. One of the twins is heir to the crown, though which will not be known until they take a ritual test. Mirjel is bound to marry which ever brother becomes king. While one is cast into the wilderness, another protects the people from the sorcerers and the third is seduced by them.
