Meet the heroines, Bryony, a shifter mermaid, and Maia, a witch

If you had a free day with no responsibilities and your only mission was to enjoy yourself, what would you do?

Bryony: I would spend the day in our pool. It’s my favorite place. Or if I had more time I’d hop on a plane and fly to the coast. I do miss swimming in the sea since we moved to Las Vegas.
Maia: I’d spend the day in the garden by the pool, drinking frozen margaritas and watching my girl Bryony swim in her mermaid shape.

If you could spend the day with someone you admire (living or dead or imaginary), who would you pick?

Bryony: I’d choose Caltha Dooran, the leader of the mermen Clans back home – I mean, in the Morvann Islands where I come from. I’ve always admired her courage and spirit. My family didn’t accept my relationship with Maia, it’s the reason why we ran away to Las Vegas. But if I explained how I feel to Caltha, I know she’d understand.
Maia: I’d spend the day with my former mentor and lover, Ariel. He’s a powerful warlock who taught me everything I know about love and magic. But we parted in bad terms – well to be honest I stole a magical amulet from him and ran off with Bryony. I’d like to ask him to forgive me, so we can be friends again. He’s not someone you’d want as an enemy.

What is your idea of perfect happiness? And, what is your current state of mind?

Bryony: I think I had perfect happiness, living with Maia in Las Vegas. I love her to bits, she’s everything I’ve ever dreamed of. But recently I’ve become worried that maybe she’s getting bored with me. I feel she’s hiding something from me.
Maia: My idea of perfect happiness is to live with Bryony, and not have any cares in the world. Unfortunately I can’t stop worrying that Ariel is going to land on our doorstep one day and punish me for stealing from him.

What do you consider to be the most overrated virtue and why?

Bryony: Purity and obedience. My family and Clan’s adherence to traditional values have forced me to run away from home, because they couldn’t accept that I was in love with a woman.
Maia: Moderation. I’ve never held back from taking what I want. I knew I wanted Bryony as soon as I set eyes on her. The amulet I stole from Ariel gives good luck to its wearer. I used it to win big in the casino, so I could give Bryony a comfortable life.

Tell us 3 things about yourself that the readers do not know about.

Bryony: I’m a shifter mermaid. I was the first openly gay mermaid on the Morvann islands. I work in a hotel in Las Vegas. I change into my aquatic shape and swim in a tank as part of their “mermaid” show.
Maia: I was born and brought up in France and came to London when I was twenty. I met Ariel, the leader of the London warlocks, who taught me magic and made me the witch I am today. I was in a relationship with him but stole the magical amulet so I could run away with Bryony. I give tarot readings in Las Vegas.
