#BookReview :: The Birdcage by Eve Chase - #Thriller #Mystery @michaeljbooks @EvePollyChase

All families are dysfunctional in their own unique ways.

Kat, Lauren and Flossie are three very different individuals, who are living three very different lives. But they are also connected as half sisters, thanks to their father and part of their very own dysfunctional family. When they arrive at Rock Point to answer an invitation, the readers are taken on a rollercoaster of a journey that is their life. There is a terrible secret that connects everyone in a way that cannot be buried forever. And ‘The Birdcage’ give the readers the front row seat to the drama that begins as the secrets start to unfold.

What I loved the most about the book was the author’s narrative style. The way she sets up the setting and the characters of the story, it is impossible not to feel like you are there witnessing everything in real time. The place comes alive through those pages due to amazing detailed narrative and author’s attention to detail. The dual timeline that takes the readers through the earlier years of the characters at Rock Point and also the current events that are happening at the very same place. It gives the readers just enough back story at a time to whet their curiosity while maintaining the ‘what really happened’ mystery.

The varied cast of characters also help keep readers interested with their contrast and complexities. As individual they are interesting, but as a family their tumultuous relationships and different dynamics just keep the pages turning. And Rock Point, the backdrop of the story seems to have a life of it’s own. Bringing it all together is a heady start and a steady pace till the climax.

I am not satisfied with the ending though, as it felt very predictable. With the complex characters to tell the story through, I was expecting one final twist to leave me wowed and felt a tad bit let down.
