#BookReview :: The Postcard Killers by James Patterson #Crime #Mystery

Plot Summary of The Postcard Killers:

The plot of the book revolves around Jacob Kanon, a Homicide Detective working for the NYPD.

The story begins with the brutal murder of Jacob Kanon’s daughter and son-in-law in Rome, which leaves Jacob in shock. However, instead of giving in to the loss and despair, he decides to focus his energy to avenge their deaths by tracking down the killers.

Jacob had always been driven by a fierce sense of justice. The death of his daughter and son-in-law only makes it more personal for him. Jacob follows the trail left by the perpetrators and soon finds himself traversing through different countries and continents in pursuit of the killer.

His obsession with tracking these killers takes him to some of the most exotic and dangerous places on earth, as he uncovers clues and pieces them together to discover the killer's identity.

Along the way, Jacob meets Dessie Larsson, a Swedish journalist who has also been ion the trail of the same killers. The two come together in order to pool their knowledge and resources together to catch the killers.

Their partnership takes them on a rollercoaster ride that tests their skills and resolve, and forces them to confront the dark and twisted minds of the perpetrators.

As the investigation unfolds, Jacob and Dessie find themselves entangled in a web of deceit and danger, as they inch closer to the truth.

My take of The Postcard Killers:

After a gap of quite a few months I finally managed to get my hands on this James Patterson novel. I was originally introduced to James Patterson Novels by the Movie 'Along Came a Spider' based on the novel of the same name.

I was so impressed by the plot, that I simply had to read the novel. Ever since I am hooked onto James Patterson and specially Alex Cross.

Jacob Kanon had a one track mind throughout the novel. His only concern is to catch the people responsible for his daughters death, no matter what. He has some good connections from the past who provide him with important information and he himself does some good sleuth work. However, I personally thought that he lacked the charisma and certain 'x-factor' that we expect from our protagonist.

Dessie Larsson is a small time journalist, who wants to do good and quality work. She doesn't care much about making the headlines or being famous. She works in a male dominated work place and strives to do her best.

Dessie’s background in psychology helped her immensely in this case. She was able to connect and solve a lot of things that Jacob and the Swedish Police missed. In fact, I found her character to be more of what we expect from our protagonists than Jacob.

The book is filled with gruesome murder details and a lot of blood. The tense environment that the author has set up by having Jacob (and us in turn) personally invested in the case, really keeps the pages turning. The novel combines elements of suspense, action, and drama, and keeps the reader on the edge of their seat until the very end.

Its not really one of Patterson's best work. But it is certainly worth reading for thriller lovers.
