#GuestPost :: The Mixed Genre Conundrum by @CillerIlona

About the Book:

They walk amongst us and we let them destroy our lives without even a second thought. But what if you had to face them knowing they could dispose of you at will? Could you survive when their sights were finally fixed on you? It was an accident, it wasn’t meant to happen, Troy didn’t know that he could become caught up in a Black Triangle riddled in collateral damage and mystical revelations. Troy has no idea of the magic that surrounds him or the darkness that follows close behind as he finds his soul mate but soon discovers she is the reason they want to kill him. When he realizes that his life and the lives of those close to him are trapped, the magic they have yet to learn becomes their only hope. And for hope they will travel through treacherous places for which no maps have been written. Time is against them as agents and spies close in on them. Troy wants to stop the darkness from spreading, but before he can save his world he first has to save himself.

The Mixed Genre Conundrum – Enhancing the Reader Experience

Books in the fiction category were classically either literary fiction (those stories that could have happened to any of us) or fantasy (that just couldn’t be real but were so marvelous and other worldly they made the perfect escape).

These days mixed genres have immerged on the fiction scene, one of which is Magical Realism that combines the relatability of our lives with the fantastic escape of magic. For unsuspecting readers, however, this can do two things: Delight at a new reading experience or disappointment that either component of the mixed genre was not as much as they expected.

For the reader the cure is not to have those expectations and to read for entertainment, not comparative critic when there is little to compare with. For the book promoter the key is to label their books carefully so the reader will get what they are looking for.

As a reader I love both fantasy and literary fiction and as a writer I like to mix the genres to get the best of both worlds.
