#BookReview :: The Perfect Escape by Leah Konen - #PsychologicalThriller #ThePerfectEscape @michaeljbooks

3 girls who have bonded over their messy relationships and divorces, decide to take a break from their lives and go on a road trip together. But their trip doesn't go as planned and they are forced to make an unplanned stop and a take a diversion… But that isn't all, one of them goes missing and an ex-boyfriend crashes their trip. If only the unexpected stops, and creepy coincidences were all that's afoot! The girls soon realise that something more sinister is playing out and they are afraid for their own life. Will they survive the road trip?

The conflicting title and blurb is really what caught my attention. The blurb has the air of who's next while the title is all about an escape? Who escapes? One of the probable victims or the killer on the hunt?

The main three characters - the girls, all in their 30s, have made some pretty bad or dumb choices. Haven't we all at some point of our lives? Taking a break with people who are going through the same thing, even though you don't know them that well could either be an excellent choice - because they have no stake in your life, they are less likely to judge you and having similar experience they can empathize with you; or, a really stupid one - they could turn out to be demented killers themselves or have a demented killer ex who could crash your party and end up killing you. What do you think happens in this one?

The varied personalities and their experiences and their reactions to situations was interesting to read even if I couldn't always understand or sympathize. High on emotions, the characters pretty much cover a wide range from sadness to anger to bitterness to regret. My one gripe with the story is the dialogues… at most places I felt a disconnect because of 30 something year olds speaking like immature teenagers. And found it quite annoying!

The book is fast faced thriller with enough number of twists and turns to keep the readers engaged. It has that creepy cabin in the woods movie feel combined with killer stalker vibes. As such, you will wonder what is going to happen next and how things are eventually going to climax.
