Interview with Darlene Fredette

When did you first realize that you wanted to be a writer/ a storyteller?

In high school I wrote a short story for an English project. It was my English teacher who told me I had a knack for writing. Her encouragement had me putting a pencil to paper (it was the pre-typewriter and computer days) and writing a young adult romance. That story never made it out of the notebook, but other stories soon followed and were eventually published.

What inspires you to write?

The stories in my head. There are characters and plots that just come to life (usually while I’m doing housework). They keep shuffling in my head until I start writing the story.

How did you come up with the idea for your current story?

My published books are contemporary romances, but I have always wanted to write a romance suspense – a romance with a spin that leaves the readers guessing.  Finding Home Again is my first romance suspense!

Are there some stories tucked away in some drawer that was written before and never saw the light of the day?

Several! I have at least two other series started but are unfinished. All the details and character information are completed, and a few chapters are written. Maybe someday they will see the light.

What is your favorite scene in the book? Why?

My favourite scene in Finding Home Again is the confrontation where the suspects are all in a room and the reader finds out who did what.

What would be the Dream Cast for you book if it was to be turned into a movie?

For Finding Home Again, my main characters, Logan Crane and Jordan McKenzie, are the likeness of Tom Mison and Anna Kendrick. Those actors would be my dream cast.

How do you spend your free time? Do you have a favorite place to go and unwind?

When I get free time, I like to visit the Valley with my family. I also like to paint, read, and watch movies.

Tell us three fun facts about yourself.

1 - I’m an artist. I sketch pencil drawings and paint.
2 - I am an organization addict. I like everything put away where it belongs and leave no mess behind.
3 - I like to walk my hundred-pound Yellow Lab in the morning. It’s a great way to start the day with thirty minutes (weather permitted it’s sometimes longer) of walking exercise.

What do you have in store next for your readers?

I am currently working on a new spin-off to my Redford Falls series. Finding Home Again wraps up the “A Redford Falls Story” series, but book one of “The Marleys of Redford Falls” has been contracted and I am currently writing book two. This five-book series will focus on the five Marley brothers.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with your readers?

I hope they enjoy reading my books, which usually contain lots of family drama, handsome heroes, strong heroines, and plenty of romance.
