An #Interview Jonathan Wakeford, a warlock & Caltha Dooran, a shape-shifting mermaid - @alicerauthor #Fantasy #Romance

About the Book:

Caltha Dooran is the toughest, fiercest shape-shifting mermaid in the western seas. She has three Clans to rule, and no time for romance. But when a warlock, Jonty, turns up and asks her to come with him to London to capture a water monster, she can't say no. In London, away from her duties, her attraction for Jonty grows... and they soon fall under each other's spell. But will his past and her responsibilities pull them apart, or can they find the only true magic, the one that binds two souls together?

An Interview with the hero, Jonathan Wakeford (Jonty), warlock, and the heroine, Caltha Dooran, shape-shifting mermaid.

If you had a free day with no responsibilities and your only mission was to enjoy yourself, what would you do?

Jonty: I would go for a motorbike ride in the countryside, have a good meal in a riverside pub, then go back to London for drinks and dinner in my favourite Chinese restaurant. Nice, normal things. Definitely no magic involved. Or monsters. Or fighting…
Caltha: I’d go for a swim and a chat with the dolphins in the sea around my island, then lie on the beach and read a romantic novel… I haven’t done that for years.

If you could spend the day with someone you admire (living or dead or imaginary), who would you pick?

Jonty: Gandalf. I’d ask him how he managed to control his powerful magic, without causing harm to himself or others…
Caltha: My dad. He died when I was still little, and I miss him. I’d like him to tell me some of his fantastical stories about supernatural watery creatures, and the old days when merfolk lived all over the world.

What is your idea of perfect happiness? And, what is your current state of mind?

Jonty: to be free of the past. To have a clean conscience, and not be tormented by the thought of the errors I made, and the price others paid for it. I am better than I was… but the terrible things that happened 18 months ago still weigh heavy on my mind.
Caltha: I’d love to be free of my responsibilities. To be the leader of all the mermen Clans at my age is a heavy burden. At the moment I’d love to go on a holiday… have an adventure.

What do you consider to be the most overrated virtue and why?

Jonty: Confidence. I was overly confident, to the point of arrogance, I trusted my powers too much. I took a risk, I over-reached… and the woman I loved died as a result.
Caltha: Chastity. My mother raised me to be a good, dutiful mermaid, and save myself for a merman husband worthy to lead the Clans with me. But… I wish I could know love and pleasure, even if it was only for one night…

Tell us 3 things about yourself that the readers do not know about.

Jonty: I am an aristocrat, I grew up on a large estate in Hertfordshire. I’m a warlock and hunt magical creatures, but I’ve given up magic following the death of the woman I loved. I’m secretly jealous of my leader and friend Ariel, the most powerful warlock in England.
Caltha: When I was a teenager I used to bunk off school to sneak into the cinema and watch films, especially romantic movies. I have no time for romance, and haven’t yet met a merman I really want as a mate, but there’s a part of me that will always yearn for love. I have never been outside the Morvann Islands, the rugged, remote Welsh archipelago where the mermen live.

  1. Wonderful interview.
Great answer: Gandalf. I’d ask him how he managed to control his powerful magic, without causing harm to himself or others… Jonty really could have used that advice.
